NiMH Batteries in the Elecraft K2 2003 I put out a query on the Elecraft email list about battery holders suitable for fitting on the stock battery tray. From that I found a good source of 10-AA holders (at www.mouser.com). Dual sets of AA NiMh (two sets of 10 in parallel) should handle the radio well, deliver about 4AH capacity, and have moderate weight (less than the SLA, more than the Lithium Polymer). They would be the best for Air Travel due to familiarity and commonality. A single stack of 10 cells would supply 12 volts and about 2 amp hours, depending on the particular cells selected. The full power key-down transmit current requirements of the K2 are a bit much for one stack, so either limit the power to 5 watts or so, or use two stacks in parallel. I think I will try the Nickel Metal batteries later. Now on to the Lithium Polymer Batteries... -- Alan WB6ZQZ
